Mass Defect

When nucleons bind together, they lose a tiny fraction of their mass. This "lost" mass (Δm) is converted directly into Binding Energy (E=mc²), which is what holds the atom together.

Calculations

Mass of Unbound Parts
Sum of individual protons & neutrons.
Actual Atomic Mass
Nucleus mass + electron mass.
Mass Defect (Δm)
The exact mass converted into energy.
Total Binding Energy
Energy required to disassemble nucleus.

Binding Energy per Nucleon

Measures the stability of the nucleus. Peaks around Iron-56.
